Bhubaneswar is the capital city of Orissa, a state in eastern India. Visiting family brings me to this city every two years. A city of about a million people. There are a limited number of things to do in this city but one of my favorite tourist activities is visiting the many temples in the city.
Bhubaneswar is also known as the Temple City of India and I can tell you these structures are just beautiful. One of the most beautiful is the Rajarani temple in the above picture. Graceful and elegant, the red sandstone glistens in the sunlight. Up close the intricate detail of the carving and the sheer skill of the craftsmen is breathtaking. My favorite is the carvings of the females showing them dancing, playing or sitting.
The temple is situated in a park that is a serene and peaceful. The honking of the horns and the traffic is somehow blocked out even though a busy road is only steps away. This is a place where you can truly relax.
